'Crocodile Hunter' Dead at 44

'Crocodile Hunter' Dead at 44

"CAIRNS, Australia (Sept. 4) -- Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44."

Wow. Rest in peace, Steve.

  • This is very sad news, and has saddened our family. We did not know him, but we were certainly entertained by him. And educated too. When all is said and done, his greatest public contribution will be the awareness of conservation he brought to a very wide audience.

  • We've taken it harder than I expected. I can't even say we were fans of the show, but there's just something that feels so wrong about his death, despite the fact that he lived life on the edge. Maybe it was, in fact, because he lived on the edge. It's been more of a wake up call to mortality than the average "celebrity" death. And as you say, there is so much unfinished that he leaves behind. It's very sad.

  • A good man. Like his dad said...'an ordinary bloke". Not a bloody national hero. Just an ordinary man with an extraordinary passion".

I think you should be jogging with your dogs in the rain. That would get them used to the wet in a hurry!
